Sphinx - an imaginary creature with a lion's body and a person's or animal's head, usually with wings; in ancient Greek stories, a creature at Thebes with the body of a lion, the head and breasts of a woman, and wings. She asked people who passed by a riddle (i.e., a difficult question) and if they could not answer correctly, she killed them
Underworld - in mythology, a place under the earth where the spirits of the dead go
If any of these words make it into your next poem/story, please tag me. Or leave a link in the replies. I’d love to read them!

kurapika anon back again!! i would love to know more about your thoughts on the troupe not being fully responsible for the death of the kurta.
personally, i see it more as they committed the actual murder, but someone was pulling the strings, whether that be through the pariston/sheila theory, or tserriednich. especially considering they seem to be under the impression that it’s some kind of revenge on the kurta, while the kurta have been peaceful for a very long time by the time they were massacred.
i saw someone on reddit make the theory that the kurta were the ones that caused meteor city to be so broken down to begin with, but that would be so long ago that i think it would be unreasonable for the troupe to still act on it. possibly chrollo was lied to about that being the case? or falsely told that the kurta were planning an attack?
Hi again!
So, I will say that my theories are all a bit vague, more like a bunch of puzzle pieces than a complete picture, but I'll share my thoughts nonetheless! If anyone else has additions or more insight, feel free to add on--there's so much to consider on this topic, and I don't feel like I've considered every single piece of evidence there is out there.
For a long time, I've felt that there's uncertainty around the Phantom Troupe's actions and the Kurta massacre. For one thing, we've never been shown any images of the Phantom Troupe being involved, nor did any characters we know of directly witness them killing the Kurta, and Uvo initially doesn't remember the Kurta when asked about them (he does when he sees Kurapika's eyes, but even then it seems a little odd). The way the Kurta massacre is set up seems intentionally vague all around, which makes me think there are pieces of the puzzle Togashi has been keeping from us.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He remembers enough where it's entirely possible they did do it or at least heard about it in depth, but also remember the Phantom Troupe started out as an acting troupe. It's possible they either a) did it after being given false information or were manipulated into it, or b) took credit for it for some reason even though they weren't involved. I lean more towards a), but b) is also possible.
I also feel like, the Phantom Troupe are clearly not morally upstanding citizens, to put it mildly, but as we've seen them are they truly capable of a full-on intentional massacre of innocent people, including children, for the sake of money/trophies? Most of the violence we've seen from them has been towards mafia and Chimera Ants. I mean, Feitan does torture people as a hobby and Chrollo kills a whole bunch of audience members in his fight with Hisoka, among other examples, so it's not like it's impossible to even consider they would ever do such a thing, but I'm just somewhat skeptical nonetheless.
The Phantom Troupe backstory threw even more uncertainty into the mix for me. Sarasa is a victim in a similar way to the Kurta, and as of yet the jump between where the Phantom Troupe left off in the flashback and the way the Kurta are killed seems strange. It's likely we'll get something more to fill that gap and explain how this development happened in the manga going forward, but, there's just something about it that seems "off" to me. How did this group of people go from wanting to find the murderers of their friend--albeit at all costs, and saying they are willing to become the villains and kill people in order to get revenge--to a group of people who may have murdered 100+ people for the sake of trophies, similar to what happened to Sarasa? That doesn't match their stated aims, and while it's possible they simply became more and more twisted by going down their road of revenge, I feel like there's more to it. It's interesting either way, so if that is the case, I'll accept it, but I feel like we're missing something major.
Tumblr media
Note that they're trying to become so fearsome that people stay away from Meteor City and the people can be safer there/not preyed upon, so that would give them a reason to maybe take credit for what happened to the Kurta even if they weren't involved. And again, they started off as an acting troupe...
I also have had a suspicion for a long time that, with the way Kurapika's powers are set up specifically for the Phantom Troupe, he might eventually end up in a situation where, oops, the Phantom Troupe is not his target after all in order to get what he wants! It feels like a very Togashi kind of irony, and will put him in a difficult position.
Tserriednich is shown with a head above his throne in addition to the scarlet eyes, and his nen beast has a child's head inside of it that looks suspiciously like Pairo's. I think it's very possible Tserriednich or mafia surrounding him were involved in the acquisition of the scarlet eyes. It's possible either the Phantom Troupe were baited or manipulated into killing the Kurta in some way (told that the Kurta were responsible for Sarasa's death and the missing children in Meteor City, for instance), or that they took credit for it in order to bolster their own image as fearsome villains in order to reach their aims.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also feel like Tserriednich is a direct representation of what Kurapika (and to a certain extent, the Troupe too, at least in the past) resents and abhors--the wanton murder of human beings for reasons of aesthetics, trophies, and "art." So to me, it makes sense he would be Kurapika's ultimate antagonist rather than the Troupe, who in a way are weirdly similar to Kurapika, or at the very least started out that way. If Tserriednich was somehow involved with what happened to Sarasa/the children of Meteor City as well (assuming the timeline supports such a thing, and I'm not totally certain it does), it's even possible Kurapika and the Troupe could end up on the same side, both trying to take Tserriednich down.
There's also the question of Sheila... Like I pointed out in this post, I'm very curious about this panel of her turning away from the Troupe and what it means.
Tumblr media
I'm not totally sure I buy the Sheila = Pariston theories (though I haven't ruled it out either), but something is up with Sheila for sure, especially because of her appearance later with Kurapika and Pairo before the Kurta massacre. It's possible she lured someone there, possibly not the Phantom Troupe but maybe mafia members instead--maybe the same mafia members who murdered Sarasa? Or maybe she did pass the info to the Phantom Troupe--but it is weird that here she's shown going away from them with such a sad and complicated expression (as if maybe she were involved with what happened to Sarasa in some way), so it seems odd for her to be working with them later.
@subdee did a great post on this topic as well that has some additional thoughts and evidence as well, so I recommend checking that out!
Ultimately, I think there's a lot of doubt and mystery surrounding the Kurta Massacre, and I do feel like the series is setting up the idea of Tserriednich being the final hurdle for Kurapika to take down. There are a lot of possibilities still for exactly what happened to the Kurta and also for what will happen in the future with Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe, but I do feel like we're still missing a few puzzle pieces that will (hopefully) soon become clear. I do think this arc is going to be the end for the major plots of Kurapika, the Phantom Troupe, and Tserriednich, so I'm very curious and excited for how things will pan out!

On the other side of the coin, the higher-ups and "friends" who actually know the reality of you and Krueger's love story shakes their head when some naive, innocent Chimera members romanticize you and Krueger's relationship. Had you been unwilling, this "love story" of yours belong in those crime documentaries. It only works because both of you are insane 💀
NO LIKE, look at me in the eye and tell me that this yandere war criminal will court his darling normally. If men who flirt with you flaunt their strength and muscles like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, Krueger is extreme. His courting includes:
• Flaunting his strength by getting even more brutal towards his targets the moment you're near him.
• You know how cats bring their owner gifts in the form of dead animals? Krueger-coded. Sometimes he brings the enemies when they're still alive and let's you decide their fate (also, an excellent chance for him to see your unhinged side). You never even told him who your enemies are. Does it in public too.
• If most men bring flowers, he occasionally hands you a bloody bag filled with things you seem to take interest on. Again, he doesn't care if anyone sees. He probably likes it if people see it.
The moment you decided to show interest by gently nudging him to act out? Sir is over the moon.
in this situation, it goes both ways: Krueger is full blown yandere for you, and once you’re wholly sure of the depth of his devotion, Krueger will become your darling as much as you are his.
He will flaunt, yes. He might not be the broadest, the biggest or the tallest, but he is absolutely confident in his strength and power. Brutality is in his blood. That’s why there’s such an appeal when he brings something - someone - back, all bruised and bloody, their fate left under the sadistic gleam in your eyes. He’s usually not one to share, but he’ll make an exception for you, especially after seeing you return the favour with a few gifts here and there, all anonymous to others but extremely affectionate for him.
It could be a stranger or someone on base - I swear, he wouldn’t even care - and the higher ups don’t bat an eye, they shrug is off and turn a blind eye to it because the both of you are a strong asset. Threatening alone, but lethal together. He brings you filthy and stained gifts, he doesn’t care if people stare, he’s that shamelessly head over heels for you, and when you return his affection, he’s over the fucking moon. He doubles his acts, the price of every gift growing higher and higher, the heaviness of the bags getting more and more suspicious.
And… and the day you whisper your wish in his ears, telling him to bring nothing but himself, bloody and covered in filth to your room, he’s on his knees, worshiping and praising you as his goddess.

My first fully rendered drawing in my regular style with ClipStudioPaint and I drew no one else than my sona Ivulka. It's been ages since I drew her fully rendered instead of just doodles so I simply had to draw her and I'm going to use this as an excuse to ramble about her and people here can finally know what on earth is that thing in my pfp
So Ivulka is some kind of a chimera dragon thing. Not sure if she can be concidered as a chimera but her body possess features of other animals such as bat ears mixed with caracal, Luna moth appendages on the wings, reindeer antlers and neck fluff and the rest of her body is a mixture of otter and tree kangaroo. Yeah and she also has a hidden stingray stinger and a kangaroo pouch
She may have mammalian features but she's not a mammal, nor a reptail. Scientifically she'd belong into own class. Maybe something in between...?
Once I made a doodle about her design
Tumblr media
If you're wondering, those things under her ears are not feathers. I don't know what it is but I like it c:
Some general info:
Loves wearing hoodies
Listens to music all the time (has MP3 player)
Likes taking photos of critters
Hoarder/collector
Aprox 158 cm high (ears and antlers not included)
Absolute control over water element (liquid, ice, steam, water bending)
invisibility for short periods of time
She's been around since 2016 and she went through changes
Tumblr media
The 2016 version is basically a classical feral furry dragon. I drew this before I joined DeviantArt which was 2017. I actually never shared this
The 2017 version is still just a furry dragon but I made her anthro and this was her official introduction when I joined DA. I still like this version even tho its outdated and I like in general how I drew her back then.
In 2018 she was slowly becoming more chimera like.
In 2019 she went through a bigger update. she was still recognizable but I changed her more than the pervios version and this is the version that still holds up to these days. I wanted to give her more specific features and add more things I like and feels more like me. I still love this version and how I drew Ivulka in general.
The 2021 version... this version... not gonna lie I don't like how I drew her. This is my least favorite drawing of her. I don't know what was going on in my head back then but her head looks more canine than otter she's supposed to be. I also don't like the shading but I have an excuse for this. This is from when I started to draw with my tablet and Medibang and I was experimenting with shading.
Then there is this 3 years long gap when I didn't draw Ivulka fully rendered or at least not in full body. Instead I drew a lot of doodles. After I got my tablet and medibang I've been drawing her like crazy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is only a little of what I drew :>
Anyways, I'm so happy how current version turned out. this 2024 version is definitely my most favorite. <3

ok so i know i’ve been dorothy gale-posting late at night recently but for those unaware of the lore I need to explain to you why the wizard of oz series by L Frank Baum is in fact Gay TM and not just because all the characters are friends of dorothy.
so just about everyone knows the plot of the first book. the first book was huge. the first book is incredibly famous. the first book got a monumentally famous movie adaptation and inspired countless works after it including critically acclaimed plays, books, and songs/albums. but while the first book is great and features some fascinating little tidbits about nick chopper/the tin woodman and the scarecrow’s developing ‘friendship’, the second book is where it really starts getting good. because the marvelous land of oz has it all: single teenage fathers. the women of oz deciding to unionize. depressed furniture chimeras. the scarecrow talking about how he and nick chopper are Such Good Friends Such Great Friends and eventually deciding to move in with nick chopper permanently (and notably, the old cover features the two of them sitting across from each other like they’re the main characters, which they super aren’t, but good for them and their old man yuri anyways). Here’s an actual quote from the book about their relationship:
“Thank you,” replied Ozma. “Some day I may accept the invitation. But what is to become of the Scarecrow?”
“I shall return with my friend the Tin Woodman,” said the stuffed one, seriously. “We have decided never to be parted in the future.”
But lastly, and perhaps most famously, my favorite queer plot point from this book: the main character, who for the entire book has been Tip, The Boy, transitioning to become Ozma, The Fairy Queen Of Oz.
It’s slightly more complicated than I’m making it out to be—it’s a whole thing about Mombi having taken Ozma in as a baby and changing her into Tip so she can’t be princess anymore—but notably there’s two bits that really have made people hold up Ozma as a trans icon. The first is how Tip is like “um but I’ve never not been a boy” and Glinda basically says “that sucks. want to be a girl?” and they have a whole talk about it, wherein Tip is understandably nervous and Glinda explains that if he decides to turn into Ozma he can’t really go back (which in the context of the time reads more like an awakening thing a la the Matrix movies than the gender rigidity we might read it as today). and Tip turns to his friends and goes “well. Could be fun. let’s do it” and then takes a magic potion and wakes up as Ozma.
but what really matters to me specifically is the second bit: that when told that she is actually a girl, and when meeting her for the first time as Ozma, her friends are totally fucking chill with it. which is WILD, for a book published in 1904: but they all just basically go “huh! Good for you!” while also acknowledging a thing that I think goes under acknowledged in a lot of queer media: that the self pre and post transition are, in fact, Different. the book shows this in a quick conversation between Tip/Ozma and the rest of the cast, but specifically Jack Pumpkinhead:
“I hope none of you will care less for me than you did before. I’m just the same Tip, you know; only—only—”
“Only you’re different!” said the Pumpkinhead; and everyone thought it was the wisest speech he had ever made.
But the point is that her being different isn’t bad—in fact, it’s quite good, both for Ozma herself and Oz as a whole. She finds that she likes being a girl, that she’s more comfortable in her skin that way, and Oz benefits by having its princess returned and Jinjur ousted. Ozma’s ‘transition’ is never reacted to negatively by anyone but Tip (who is, as stated earlier, incredibly apprehensive and taken aback by the whole thing) or by figures like Jinjur, for political reasons.
This book, like all of the Oz books, of course is not perfect (Baum was likely a feminist, but his writing is full of the casual sexism typical of his time, and he notably said and wrote extraordinarily racist things, especially regarding his editorials on the death of Sitting Bull, the massacre at Wounded Knee, and the Lakota people as a whole), but it establishes a stronger queer undertone to the Oz books that continues through the rest of the series, and into pop culture today. Many modern adaptations play into these themes, such as the excellent, ongoing Yellow Brick Ramble comic by Daisy Finch McGuire (@/gastrophobia here on tumblr), which adapts the story through the lens of Ozma explicitly being a trans girl, as well as perhaps Oz’s most famous adaptation, Wicked, which in the book features a complicated but explicitly queer relationship between Glinda and Elphaba, and in the musical features perhaps one of the most queercoded songs in sapphic history.
Basically, this is a very long post to say that while many people know and acknowledge the relationship of the Wizard of Oz to queer history and art, I think it’s important we also acknowledge the following books in the series as being just as, if not more, queer than the first, and that the merits of fame do not mean that it has more value than what came after it. and also Ozma was a trans icon

The Moon and Sun (Big Sib Reader x Gon/Killua)
Ch 9: The Woes of Traveling
Synopsis: While waiting for the airship that would take you to the NGL, you spend some very much needed time with the boys. Showing them a little more about your ability, until you get into a slight disagreement with a certain silver haired hunter. But he has a knack for calming you down and regaining your favor.
-------------------
While the boys continued to hound you with questions, Spin used the observations you gave to help narrow down the search. She concluded that the most likely location of the Chimera Ant would be somewhere along the Balsa Islands. (Of which you were not familiar with)
"Unfortunately that includes the Mitene Union," Kite had added.
Unfortunately?
"Oh! Where the NGL Autonomous Region is," Banana clarified.
"Yes, and that's not to mention East Gorteau. No chance of getting information out of those two countries."
You frowned at that. And before you could question Kite about it, Killua decided to ask one of his own.
"What's the NGL?"
"NGL's an acronym that stands for Neo-Green Life." Banana started to explain.
"It's a country founded by people who reject modern technology. Choosing instead to live in nature." Stick finished.
Bingo
"Then we should check there first. No technology means it's the most vulnerable. News of a giant ant wouldn't spread as fast and it'd take a while for them to get help," You speculated.
Plus, it was better to get a place like that out of the way if the ant wasn't there.
The only issue was, places like that tended to be sticklers to their own rules. No exceptions.
"You've got a point, let me pull it up real quick," Spin said as she typed away. A few moments later, a map of the country was pulled up. All of you crowded around the computer to see.
"They primarily communicate by mail, and primary travel is by horseback Anyone who brings technology into the country could be executed."
And there it was.
Spin explained how there had been a situation with a small television crew. They were caught with equipment, and one was executed. The rest are still in jail to this day.
If you were being honest, you didn't really like the primitive societies. Having grown up in one yourself. You could understand them being upset from the disregard to their culture, but death? You found it hard to believe such a small offense would call for such a brutal punishment.
"Let's agree and assume for now the Chimera Ant washed ashore there. How would the NGL's citizenry react?" Kite's question hung in the air for a second.
If they rejected modern technology, then they'd probably reject modern help. It also depended on how primitive they were. They could've believed the ant was sent by god or something. Or that it was fate/destiny whatever may happen.
Then there was that aspect of government, if they even had one. Big Wigs tended not to give a damn about the people under them as long as it didn't affect them directly. So the off chance that the ant was already there and eating people....
"They probably wouldn't do anything, and it's not like they could anyways. No tech, no weapons," you answered.
Kite nodded.
"True. When a deadly epidemic spread through the area, they refused international medical aid. Because they preferred to let nature run its grisly course instead."
You wanted to be respectful, but it was getting harder the more you learned about this place. Why would you let yourself die, your family die just to enforce a belief that didn't matter.
It was selfish. But you figured that had more to do with the makeshift government than the people.
"Your point about communication is also correct," Kite continued.
"Even if they tried to contact the outside world, it would be too late by the time word arrived. So if the arm that was discovered did belong to the Chimera Ant queen, then it's entirely possible that she's already begun constructing her nest."
Goddamnit
----------------------------
You weren't too thrilled to be going on this trip. After purchasing tickets that would get you there, you found out a little more about the NGL than you would have liked.
Mainly, the rumors about drugs being manufactured there.
The last thing you needed to deal with was coked up ants. Especially if the boys were the ones fighting them. But there really wasn't anything you could do about it. You'd already given your word that you'd help find the Chimera Ant queen.
So here you are, wandering around the airport in the hopes to pass time. At least you had some decent company.
"Hey, Y/n?" Gon called. You stopped walking and looked down at him.
"Hmm?"
The other boy backtracked towards you when he realized you weren't behind him anymore.
"What made you decide to make your ability tracking?"
You tensed up slightly at the question. You should've guessed it would have been brought up so soon. You momentarily debated another half-truth but decided against it. You let out a tired sigh before answering.
He was too curious for his own good.
"Circumstances called for it, in a sense. It wasn't really my choice if I'm being honest. Just something I had to do."
To be fair, you could have developed a fighting ability as well, but it wasn't something you had been focused on at the time.
"What circumstances?"
"That's a story for another time, kay?" You lightly elbowed him. He pouted but dropped it.
"How young were you when you developed it?" This time it was Killua who asked. He seemed a little hesitant to, probably due to your reaction the last time he pried for information.
You were such an ass for that.
"Let's see," you thought back on it for a sec.
"Around four. It was fully developed by five."
"What!?!?"
You wanted to laugh at the bugged-out expression they both wore.
"There's no way! That's like how Killua was dropped off at Heaven's Arena as a baby!"
"Yeah but I didn't even know about nen until now! How did you figure it out at four!?!?"
Heaven's Arena? Like the place where people fought for money? God they were so reckless. First Chrollo, now this? You didn't think they'd ever run out of ways to surprise you. (For the worst that is)
You put your hands up before they could start shaking you again.
"Hey, hold on. I didn't just wake up one day and decide to use nen. It's thanks to the people I was with that pushed me there. And no, I will not be answering anymore questions today. Please and thank you."
You could feel the disappointment from both auras. See the grumpy frowns on their faces. And instantly your resolve broke.
God what was wrong with you. You were becoming too damn soft.
"How 'bout I show you two something cool instead. Fair?" You offered. They both beamed up at you.
Fakers.
"Let's find somewhere to sit first, okay?"
"Okay!"
"Fine, but it better be cool."
You spotted a bench a little ways away. You were grateful it was empty. You didn't think you could tolerate being squished together like sardines again.
It was also right next to-
You couldn't stop the gasp that left your mouth. Nor the way your eyes immediately lit up with stars. The boys sent you questioning stares and followed your line of vision.
A small snack shack with cookies on the display.
And as quickly as your delighted expression came, it also left. You shook your head and continued to your destination.
Killua looked over to Gon. They nodded to each other in agreement.
"I'll be right back. Go ahead and show Gon first," Killua called as he dashed past you.
You tilted your head in confusion. They were plotting something, weren't they? Goblins, the both of them. But you decided to let it go.
So long as it didn't lead to any trouble.
You sat down on the rickety old bench and patted the spot next to you. Gon complied, anticipation radiating off of him.
"You wanna know how I see the world?" Well, how you saw people more like it. But you thought the way you asked was a little cheesier. It fit with the vibe you were going for.
The softness
"Yeah! I wanna be able to see people's auras like you! It sounds fun!" You laughed at his enthusiasm.
"Wait! Are you gonna train me!?!?" He beamed up brighter at you.
"No, that'll be a while from now. I said I was gonna show you something cool, and training you to see them would take months." You clarified with a genuine smile.
The boy deflated slightly, but was all smiles again as he saw you make circle shapes with your hands and coat them with nen.
Like glasses.
Oh
He understood now.
You moved your hands to his eyes and waited for his reaction.
What he could see was everything. Little outlines of aura trailing every person. Sparks of emotion that seemed clearer to read. And the field of vision went further than he was used to seeing.
It was pretty cool. And useful. No wonder you had been able to find him so easily on Greed Island.
Your hands moved away at the feeling of Killua's presence.
"Took you long enough, gremlin."
He scooched on the other side of you.
"Yeah, well the line was long okay."
Before you could question him about it, a small bag was placed in your lap. You picked it up to inspect and let out another gasp.
The choked sound earning a laugh from the duo on either side of you.
Your eyes closed and you cupped your face to stop the warmth from spreading. Little delighted squeaks as you realized what it was.
A little baggie of chocolate chip cookies.
They had never seen you beam at something before. Never seen a smile so pure and bright from you. Like whatever had been weighing you down before was temporarily gone.
Not even when you had been talking with Kite were you this happy.
You snapped from your delighted daze after a few seconds.
"Oh right, let me show you the thing," you said as you clutched the bag close to you. Like it was made of the most precious material in the world.
Killua's face scrunched in confusion at your words. Then turned into shock as you once again made glasses with your hands and lifted them to his eyes.
Like Gon, he could see everything. The auras, the emotions, and much to his delight-the strength of everyone. So this was how you detected Binolt. Pretty handy. Maybe he could bribe you with candy to teach them how to see like you.
Which begs the question...
"Can we see your aura?"
You thought about it for a minute and inevitably gave in. Mourning the loss of setting your cookies down to do so.
"Sure, just don't get all scared." It was meant to lighten the mood, but a small part of you really meant it. You weren't trained to read yourself, so you didn't have any clue what they would see. You just hoped it wasn't bad.
You kneeled in front of them, one hand for each eye. You coated the space with your nen and waited.
The first thing they noticed was how faint your aura was. Like you were suppressing it. The next thing was your emotions. Nervousness, exhaustion, and that spark of uncontainable joy from before. Which made sense considering the events that just transpired.
But it was the ones buried under them that were concerning.
Guilt, fear, and regret.
A silent agreement was made not to mention those. Not to press you on them. Whatever caused you to feel that way, you'd tell them when you were ready.
You moved your hands away all too soon.
"Soooo, was that or wasn't that the coolest thing you've ever seen?" You stood up with mock confidence, unnerved by the worry now radiating off of them.
"It was okay, not as cool as the visualization thingy." Killua's quip had the mood lightening slightly.
"Well beggars can't be choosers, gremlin." The worry was gone.
"I can still return these," he said lifting up the small bag.
Your eyes widened in dispair.
"Nononono!!!! Please, my precious little Moon Star don't do it!!!! I'll die! I won't be able to go on without them!"
Killua ignored your light attempts to get the bag back, instead smiling smugly at Gon.
"I've got a cooler nickname than you now," he mouthed.
The boy in green puffed out his cheeks.
"No you don't!"
"Yeah I do!" The small assassin verbalized.
"Don't!"
"Do!"
"Don't!"
And while Killua was distracted, you made a fast grab, successfully taking the bag away. He didn't notice as he continued to argue with his best friend.
That was until both of them heard a crunch followed by another excited squeak. They peaked over the bench to see you happily munching away on a cookie.
"Stealer," Killua huffed out.
Gon nudged his shoulder.
"Leave them." He scolded.
It was quite comical to see someone with such a rough exterior go so soft over a few sweets. And the fact that you would growl if they tried to reach for one just to tease you.
It was almost enough to make the three of you forget about the situation at hand.
Almost.
You'd felt Kite's aura approach, then stop. A feeling of hesitance replacing the calm.
And in truth he was a little hesitant. The three of you looked so peaceful. So happy.
Like a little family.
It'd be a damn shame if something happened to it.
All the more reason he should confirm you all knew what you were getting yourselves into. This job would be dangerous. And it just might ruin the peace you had created with each other.
So he'd let the three of you have your moment. Hopefully not the last one if things went according to plan.
With that he continued on to your small group.
-------------------
Your head snapped up at the sound of footsteps approaching. Realizing it was Kite, you relaxed. Seems he was gonna talk to the three of you after all.
"It may be too late to ask this, but are you all sure you want to come along?" His voice immediately catching the boys' attention.
The question was genuine, but a little redundant to ask.
You all were still here, weren't you?
And these boys were the furthest thing from cowards.
But you supposed from an outsider looking in, things would look different. An emotionally and physically drained adult chasing around two hyperactive kids. You probably would have been concerned too.
Their answer was immediate and you wouldn't have expected anything else.
"Of course."
"You weren't kidding about the 'late' part, huh?"
There was momentary shock from Kite's aura. Then eyes fell on you expectantly.
"What? I thought I was in this by default. Can't exactly track an ant without a tracker, you know?"
Unwavering determination from the three of you. Safe to assume where one went, the other two would follow. Still, Kite needed to make sure you all knew of the potential risks entering the NGL. That the three of you would be prepared for it.
"As you know, we have no idea what the situation is inside the NGL. There may very well be a swarm of giant Chimera Ants already hunting humans down. And if that does indeed turn out to be the case, then my priority will be saving them."
Kite's gaze lingered on his team. A surge of protectiveness radiating off him. You could respect that. You could relate to that.
"Be aware that I may not be able to help you three. If you're going to join us, you must be able to protect yourselves."
And again your boys had answered without hesitation.
"Right, I got it!"
"We'll be okay."
Surprisingly, you weren't pushed for an answer. And it may or may not have to do with the fact that he had seen your strength the day he met you. Your speed that rivaled his and was probably even faster. Your strong will to protect those boys.
You'd already proven enough of your capabilities.
Too bad he was unaware it was purely for defense.
"...And if it happens to be me who finds himself in danger, then leave me there. You got it?"
An uncomfortable tension filled the air. Unease in Gon and Killua's auras. And yours too.
"DON'T LEAVE ME HERE! PLEASE! DON'T LEAVE ME!"
"Shut the hell up, would you?" Your tone was harsh and all the previous joy gone. Instead replaced by agitation. The change in mood was very much unexpected.
Not good. You were scary when you were angry. Especially since you seemed to be getting along well with Kite before.
"You don't leave your friends to die if you know you can save them. Whether you want the help or not, I don't give a damn. If that upsets you then you can shove it. But I will not have you instilling bad morals onto my brothers. End of discussion." Your eyes were colder than they had been. It was hard to pinpoint exactly what it was in them.
But it wasn't hate, wasn't exactly anger. The closest to it was disappointment. Like you were scolding him over something that seemed like common knowledge. Before he could properly explain to you what he meant, you had already gotten up and left for the airship. The two boys trailing behind you, casting an apologetic glance his way as they passed him.
A bear and its cubs.
Kite had to remember to pick his words better addressing those boys. He supposed it was sweet in a way, how serious you took raising them. It let him know they would be safe with you.
It was just dealing with your troublesome temper that would be a pain. (Good thing he was very experienced in that area.)
If you and Ging ever did meet, the two of you would probably kill each other.
-----------------
You'd never been on an airship before. Usually when you had to get somewhere, you'd walk. There was the occasional hitchhike, but you never had the proper money to afford decent travel.
And this was nice. Very nice.
The city lights below you and the sunset unobscured. It was calming. Something you really needed right now.
You hadn't meant to snap, but there were just some things that would inevitably set you off. It was nobody's fault but your own for not conveying them. Still, you weren't too fond of somebody telling your boys to leave their friends when things got rough. No matter how much you liked him.
It wasn't because you thought it would make them cowards. God no, you always reminded them not to pick stupid fights. You just didn't want them to regret running away.
Survivor's guilt was a bitch.
It was not something two twelve-year-old little boys should have to deal with.
You glanced over at them. They were looking out of the window, expressions somber. You could feel nervousness, but you'd give anything to know what they were actually thinking about.
Should you say something?
You were never good at comforting people.
But you didn't like the quiet. Not anymore.
"You two okay?" Were you being awkward right now? Yes, yes you were. But you were trying, that had to count for something, right?"
A moment of silence that seemed to stretch on for eternity.
"You called us your brothers." There was a twinkle in Gon's eye as he said it. It was hopeful.
Then it disappeared as Killua thwacked the back of his head.
"Idiot! Was that the only thing you've been thinking about!?!?"
"Well no, but it's still pretty important!!! They've never called us that before!!!"
"Yeah but we can focus on that later!"
Before you knew it, you were laughing at their shenanigans. You'd been worried over nothing. They were fine. Stupid, but fine.
"Hey! Just whaddya' think you're laughing about!" Killua pointed an accusatory finger at you, face red from embarrassment. You did your best to stifle your giggles before answering.
"Nothing. You two are just goobers is all."
"Ew, what're you fifty? You sound like a senior citizen. You look like one too with those bags under your eyes."
You let out a fake noise of offense.
"Yeah? And what, does that make you Ben Franklin, you little eel."
His embarrassment worsened as Gon laughed at your comment.
"I forgot about that! He is an eel!"
Killua huffed and crossed his arms.
"Can't believe you turned my own best friend against me. Not very big sibling behavior."
You shook your head in amusement. What a day you were having. At least it would end on a high note.
"Oh, Y/n," Gon called.
You turned your head to give him your attention.
"Thank you for earlier."
Your face scrunched in confusion.
"For what?"
"You remember what Kite said before we left? That we should escape without him if he's in danger?"
"Yes?" What did you do that deserved thanks? If anything, you were just being a snippy bitch.
"I wanted to thank you for what you said. That friends don't leave each other behind. I don't think me and Killua would have been able to put that into words. Well, more like say it directly. So thank you."
"Yeah, he didn't make it sound like it was a choice. So I guess I appreciate that you gave us one," Killua added.
You didn't know what to do with this. The gratitude for something you thought was common sense. It wasn't like you'd made some heroic speech on the power of friendship. You just talked from experience.
So you did the only thing you could think of and flicked their foreheads.
"You goblins. Don't thank me for something small like that. I'm the Big Sib, remember? I can't just let someone be teaching you bad habits. What kind of example would I be setting if I agreed to let you run away with your tail between your legs?"
The resounding laughter from both of them had your face going warm.
"Hey! I don't recall saying anything funny! So quit it!"
"It's just-" Gon started before getting cut off by a wheeze.
"You're being so serious over a 'thank you'. You know, you're acting more like a parent right now!" Killua hung off of Gon to steady himself.
Your face went a darker shade.
"I'm nobody's parent! I barely agreed to be your sibling!" You turned to leave, trying not to fluster yourself further.
"Waitwaitwait!" A small grab on your wrist.
"You never let me finish talking." It was Gon who seemed to have collected himself at last.
"You said thank you, sounds like you finished to me."
He shook his head.
"I didn't. That was only part of it. Please sit down and listen." And there were the puppy dog eyes. You hated yourself for how easily you gave in every time.
"Fine. Not like I wanted to nap or anything." You gave his hair a ruffle before sitting on yet another rickety bench, Killua next to you.
"Okay, there's something that I've been thinking about. I want your honest opinion. Do you really think Kite, a guy Ging respects, can ever actually be in that much danger? He said to leave if things got bad, but how bad could they really get if he's so strong?"
Technically, the one friend of Ging's you'd met was a titan. So the odds of Kite being in trouble seemed slim. Then again, you still didn't know how strong these ants would be.
"People slip up. They get tired. Reckless when protecting something important. No matter how strong or respected someone is, there will always be a weakness. And because this is an enemy we've never faced, it's hard to predict what will happen. We can just hope for the best."
So many damn factors could determine a fight. No matter how skilled someone was, one small mistake was all it took.
You wished you didn't know why he had asked that, but you did. And it was because he was considering Kite's words in full. Mulling over what would be the right decision to do. Honor his wishes, or agree with you.
Then there was that familiar spark of determination. And you knew the words that would accompany it would be said with so much certainty, there would be no room to argue.
"I don't know the reason Ging brought me and Kite together, and maybe I never will...But I won't just give up. It doesn't matter what's going on here, I just don't wanna disappoint him, you know?"
You decided then and there that Ging Freecs was the worst person in the world. Gon, who had never even met him, was worried about his approval. The man who had dropped him off at his cousin's and told one of his best buddies to fight him full force. That was the one he didn't want to disappoint.
This kid, who had always felt like he failed when he couldn't accomplish something, didn't deserve that. Didn't deserve to have his self-worth be determined by a man who wasn't there.
So yes, you decided you officially hated Ging. And if you ever met him, you'd be sure to knock him down a peg or two.
"Or me. I couldn't forgive myself either. I won't run away. That's what I've decided. I won't leave my friend to die, not if I can save him." Gon's voice snapped you from your thoughts.
And after processing what he said, you felt a surge of pride. Such a good kid who was cursed with an ass of a father.
"Atta boy." At your praise, he ducked his head down, a feeling of bashfulness overtaking his aura.
"And you? What've you decided, gremlin?" You nudged the boy next to you.
"Don't know. I guess I'd just think about it when the time comes," Killua answered.
"Really? What if it was one of us?" You were being a little mean, pressing him like that. But no matter his answer, it wouldn't change a thing. You'd die to keep these boys alive. And you probably would.
"Well, if it's you two, I'll try my best. But anyone else, it just depends. I don't do these hypotheticals, okay!?!?"
You patted his head, much to his dismay.
"Then let's all agree on something. We look out for each other there, okay? Do what we can, so the rest can do what we can't. And don't be scared to ask for help. I know you two are stubborn, but please be careful."
Were you making another promise?
They nodded, hands reaching towards yours to shake on it.
You were about to make yourself comfortable to start napping when your eyes caught a flash of silver. A familiar calming aura approaching, then it stopped.
You stood up to get a better vantage point and sure enough, there he was. Perhaps he had caught the last part of your conversation with the boys and stopped himself from interrupting.
He noticed you a few seconds later. You were still very much agitated by his previous statement, but you weren't about to be an even bigger ass over that.
He did buy the three of you tickets to come along. And he did double check with the three of you before boarding.
Goddamnit, you couldn't even properly hold a grudge now.
So with the boys distracted with each other, you started up another silent conversation.
'You wanna talk or something? Away from the boys though. You've gotta earn that privilege again.'
Was that relief you were sensing?
'I was hoping to talk to you in private, if that's ok with you?'
You looked back over to the two boys who were currently arguing over dibs for training with you first. Dummies.
You turned back towards Kite and nodded.
"I'll be back, don't do anything that gets me in trouble."
A protest of 'hey's' as you left to follow the taller male. Which wasn't far. The airship was spacious but not big. You two stopped a little ways around the bend.
Your arms were crossed and your stare was expectant. He really did prefer it when you weren't mad. The way you looked a few moments ago. But even though you were upset, you were not an unreasonable person. He'd seen that firsthand himself.
The uncomfortable tension was back. But you'd disrupted it soon after. For better or worse, neither of you could tell.
"This the part where you apologize for traumatizing my boys by asking them to leave you to die?" You may have been exaggerating. But damnit, they shouldn't have to think about things like that.
Your dramatics were expected and like before, Kite would bite back.
"Is this the part where you tell me to screw my explanation?" It was slightly teasing, but completely dispelled your previous agitation.
Your eyes widened, not expecting his response. However, you rebounded quickly.
"If it sucks, then yes. But if you've got a good one I'd love to hear it."
The air became thicker as his expression turned serious.
"You care about those boys, don't you?" You both knew the answer to that very well. Nevertheless, you nodded to confirm.
"Then it's your duty to keep them safe. If I'm in a fight I can't win, what hope to they have?"
And before you could protest on their behalf, he continued.
"They would be putting themselves in a danger they can't beat. Letting emotions get in the way and making mistakes they shouldn't. Good intentions or not, they'd only end up getting in the way. It's your responsibility to take them out of that situation. To protect them."
The same song and dance as before. He was right and you'd jumped the gun a little too soon. The rational part of your brain listening to his words and knowing he was right. But....
"That's not the issue. Trust me, I'm gonna make sure nothing happens to them, even if it kills me. But you don't know what you're talking about asking them to run away. It's not just about doing what's morally right. It's the affect it's going to have."
Affect? Now he was the one a little at loss for words.
"What do you mean?"
You hesitated for a second. Dread and guilt bubbling to the surface.
"As someone who has had to make that choice...I made the wrong one. I don't want them making the wrong one too. It's not something that goes away, the guilt. It festers and grows and it just..." You shook your head, trying to rid away everything negative.
"You don't know what you're asking of them. If there's a chance, even a small one that everybody comes out okay, then we'll make it happen."
Oh
So that was why you were mad.
It made sense now. All of it actually. And when you put it like that, it was hard to argue with. But there was still that image of the happy family broken because one of you had gone back.
You needed to know that. You needed to see past those feelings to understand that. Maybe it was asking too much of you, but this was an important job. One he and his team could not mess up.
"What if you can't? What if it's too late to save someone and you know it? Would you still foolishly try?" It was cruel, but there wasn't a nicer way to put it.
You looked down then. Like you felt defeated. And for a brief moment he thought he knew what your answer would be. He was wrong.
"No...I wouldn't have." He thought the conversation would have ended there, but it didn't. And why it didn't made him respect you all the more.
"But things have changed for me. They've changed me. And even though I know it's a fool's game," Your hands had clenched.
"I would do it in a heartbeat. But if you're so adamant about this, then I want you to make me a promise in exchange."
You didn't agree with him, but you had agreed to follow through in his wishes. It was only fair he do the same.
"Promise that if I have to fight to give them time, you'll get them out of there. You'll keep them safe for me. If I need to die, then make sure they live." Your eyes met Kite's. He would never tire seeing your resolve, but now there was something softer mixed in. Vulnerable.
"I know they can be a handful, but they'll grow on you." He didn't need you to try and convince him to agree. He'd already decided the second you proposed it. Still, you loved your little family and wanted to ensure they would be safe.
A breath of fresh air compared to some of the other hunters he had met. (Even if you weren't exactly one.)
You extended your hand towards his. He took it, noticing a small amount of aura coating it.
"I swear on my nen, that if I know you can't be saved, we'll run."
It was a curse. No a condition. He had never met someone who bet their nen on their word. But your resolve was absolute, not worried about the potential ramifications of your actions. You were serious about keeping your promise.
A spark of something akin to admiration was felt. You stood strong and unmoving and it was having an affect on him.
It wasn't hard to see why both boys looked up to you so much.
You'd place a condition on your nen to keep your promise. So he would too. As a show of good faith. A show of trust.
"I swear on my nen, as well. If something should happen to you, I'll take care of Gon and Killua in your place." His own aura coated his palm.
You looked up at him in shock. Did he have any idea what he was about to do? That this was permanent until the conditions had been met or null?
"You know what happens if you break it, right? This isn't something to take lightly. It's binding." You warned. But Kite looked unfazed by your words, aura a familiar calm.
"I know. Does it make you uncomfortable that I'm willing to meet your stakes?" It was a genuine question. He assumed you would have been happy. Maybe a snarky comment here and there, but not surprised. Was this another boundary he was unaware of?
"No. I just wanted to make sure." You finally shook on it, a feeling of your nen exchanging with his before it was over.
Why had he done that? Why had he put a condition on himself? Just because you did it??? You didn't get it. Promises were important to you, and now a promise like this? Where both parties had agreed to give something up in case it was broken... Where stakes were mutual...
No
You knew why
And it had your slowed heart beating in overdrive inside your chest.
"You're.... You're a good person. For meeting me halfway on this. Thank you, Kite." Your tone was the softest it had been with him. There was gratitude yes, but there was something else. It was almost intimate.
And when you said his name like that, with such fondness, it made him want to keep you around. Just to hear it said in the same way again.
A tongue for a dagger with a heart of gold. That's what you were. A smart ass with a big heart, especially with those two boys.
Maybe he would invite you to stay when this was all over.
----------------
Unbeknownst to the two of you, pairs of eyes watched the exchange from afar. Both of them trying to wrap their heads around what you just did.
You shook hands coated in nen and that was it. But why? They couldn't figure it out. From where they were, they couldn't really hear you all that well.
But one of them could read lips, and what he deciphered shocked him in a way that was terrifying.
Because what Killua had just witnessed was you willing to give up your nen, what made you you, for their safety. That you would give up your life to make sure he and Gon got out safe.
What the hell was wrong with you!?!? Doing something so stupid over something that wouldn't happen!!!! You'd made a big deal about not running away a few minutes ago, so what was the-
Your wording.
There was an 'if'. If you know you can save them.
'But if you couldn't' was what you bet your nen on.
And it brought the earlier conversation to full light. What he would do if you and Gon were just in danger. Without knowing if saving either of you was an option.
Would you hate him if he decided to run?
He knew Gon wouldn't leave you, that he wouldn't have even entertained the thought. But it wasn't as cut and dry for Killua.
It had been instilled in him to flee from battles he could not win. To run and save his own life.
And what if that actually happened? Would the two of you stay?
Would either of you forgive him?
Would you still think of him as your little brother? A killer turned coward?
You never stayed mad or upset with him. And Gon always believed the best in him.
"One day you'll betray your friends and then you'll kill them." He froze at the sound of Illumi's voice. His words were still engraved in his mind.
"You don't leave your friends to die if you can save them." But so were yours.
"You're no good."
"Okay, I'll admit it. That was pretty unexpected. And cool."
"You're weak."
"Just try a little harder and you'll have it down."
"Foolish little brother."
"He's cautious and knows how to pick his battles. And despite the shit his family's put him through, he's still a good kid."
His brother had taught him everything he's ever known, and a part of him was grateful for that.
But you and Gon had shown him a different way. A way built on trust rather to than fear. And out of the voices battling in his head, yours was the one he would rather listen to. The better one.
The one that made him feel safe.
He would try for you.
Try to be a good person for you and Gon.
Try to save the two of you if anything happened.

since there are a lot of people creating theories about Anya's name, her backstory and discussing about chapter 90.1,I wanted to share my own opinion。◕‿◕。
tbh,I was surprised that Ania's name had all this time a meaning and it wasn't just a mix of Misha and Ashe from Endo's previous works kinda expected it though,I'm not sure why Endo was hiding it all the time, maybe because it was supposed to be a surprise..
I honestly think that Ania is a Russian name took from Anna,is she a reference of princess Anastasia?my own question leaded me to an imagination of her backstory,hehe(^^);
Ania was the princess of a royal family, they all were under serveillance, all the members conversations were encrypted in classic language so that the content couldn't be understood it wasn't the native language of the country by the way
Desmond was the one behind everything happening to the country and the royal family,he nuked/destroyed the country it's kind of confirmed that he's doing suspicious activities, right?,all the family were killed but Anya wasn't,instead those monsters kidnapped her and she became their new test subject for the Ostanian project apple subject 007
Tumblr media
everyone in the lab treated her as a tool and forced her to study..
There was a scientist,he was cruel like all of them and for some sort of reason,he changed later on and became a kind person,he was the one who helped Anya escaping the lab,she will surely start a new happy life with a new family, well, after a short period, the little girl was adopted and returned to the orphanage 4 times, till one day a spy codenamed Twilight waku waku came searching for a 6 years old child, ends up adopting her to become a part of a fake family, the forgers for the sake of operation strix ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there is also a high possibility that there is a reason behind Anya's freedom...probably nobody helped her escape the cursed lab,the scientists just started a new experiment is her freedom itself, this experiment is designed to train her to become a skilled telepath naturally, so that they can kidnap their tool whenever they are ready to start the war
Melinda knows about her past herself, that's why she wants Anya and Damian to become closer because of some other hidden reasons idk myself..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and before I forget,here's some canon proofs supporting the princess theory;
Ania loves castles, she talked about servants in the first chapter,we even had a whole episode about her as a princess and her her papa saving her, most of the anime episode was an original though was it for a foreshadowing purpose from Endo himself?!
there's also several mentions about royality in the manga, for example in chapter 42,etc,etc..the lastest and the most important mention was in chapter 88,Melinda choosing specifically the royal top elite cakes as a gift for Anya wich Damian told her to buy,he didn't said for who exactly
Tumblr media
"they were cakes said to originally have been created by king Willy II,as a conciliatory gift for the queen of an enemy country"!!! this line alone raised a lot of suspicion inside me...so I had to do some search(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)I found out later on that King Willy and the queen from the enemy country are actually a reference of king Frederick the great and Empress Elizaveta!! probably I'm gonna make a thread talking about them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to my proofs,we also had Anya comparing the Griffin wich is the symbol of the Desmonds and Chimera the possible symbol of her royal family and her dear friend who knows everything about her
Tumblr media
I'mma include the Authens since they are 100% getting involved in this arc and were introduced just before the chapter we got a new hints about Ania's past and the confirmation of her backstory arc
First of all,Sigmund Authen might be a reference of Sigmund Freud the founder of Psychoanalysis,is related to minds?!!mind reading powers in sxf universe??!?the theory of super powers and all this stuff might be proposed by him since he was a professor teaching in the berlint university is owned by the Desmond family, you can notice the letter "D" in the logo

I realize this is not the typical request you get so pls ignore if u don't wanna write it, it's totally fine. :3 I'd like some headcanons for the blorbos as supernatural creatures!
Hi hi hello hello, sorry it took so long to get this one done. I've actually been planning it out since I got it because it's not one I can do easily off the top of my head. I wanted to incorporate as much stuff as I could so it took a while to really lay thoughts down finally. Anyways, here it IS. It includes supernatural and mythological creatures from multiple cultures, btw. Sorry if I missed any particular faves.
Kiryu Kazuma: Dragon
Bit on the nose but our Kiryu can't be anything but a dragon. Powerful to a point of being otherworldly and with a driving fire in his belly, Kiryu is dragon similar to that of Haku from Spirited Away. He is simaltaneously tormented by his spiritual being but also extremely conscious of his abilities and how to use them. Sometimes he fears the sharpness of his own claws and wonders if his powers couldn't be used for something better or at the very least gentler.
Majima Goro: Ouroboros
With his snakeskin jacket, Majima is an ouroboros in walking human form. Known as the snake that holds its own tail in its mouth, Majima is his own best friend and worst enemy. His lifestyle of being on the absolute razor edge has left him holding his own fate in his hands, or in some cases, his mouth. He constantly lives in a state of holding on to his own past or biting it off entirely and becoming someone separate from it.
Saejima Taiga: Werewolf
Equally sensitive as he is strong, a werewolf is the perfect personification of who Saejima is and his internal struggle. He's very much a man who has a love/hate relationship with his supernatural struggle. On one hand, it makes him able to protect those he loves and stand up for what's right. On the other hand, he feels like he's controlled by it more than anything. He often questions if there's more to his life than brutish force.
Akiyama Shun: Centaur
Swift and steadfast like a stallion, all with the charisma and temperment of a human being. Handsome by nature but stands out in his own special way. Although he is prone to living lazily in his own comfort, when push comes to shove, he wouldn't hesitate to race to your side when you need him. Also really good at kicking people really hard.
Tanimura Masayoshi: Moon Rabbit
Small but mighty. Typically found alone despite having connections to other beings or even working under other more powerful creatures. Agile and has a penchant for sweet foods. Many people see him but truly do not know much about him.
Ryuji Goda: Basilisk
Similar to Kiry, Ryuji embodies a powerful snake-like creature. Although Ryuji also has great physical force, his form is slightly more reserved in that respect. If he desired, he could simply destroy another person with so much as a glance, choosing to raise his fists only for fights and people he deems truly worthy.
Nishikiyama Akira: Shachihoko
With the body of a carp and the head of a dragon, Nishiki's tattoo is truly the embodiment of what kind of mythological creature he would be. Always trailing the cusp of greatness, Nishiki finds himself trying to evolve while also struggling to remain true to himself. It's this very struggle that in the end either transforms him entirely into one being or the other or simply tears him apart.
Daigo Dojima: Sphinx
Daigo is a multifaceted person with a complex life, which only makes it fitting that his supernatural form be equally complicated. Part man, part lion, and part eagle, Daigo in his older age is a balance of brute strength, intelligence, and justice. He tries his hardest to embody the best of all these qualities but struggles to find the balance within himself. Sometimes this drive to be the best of everything leads him astray, blinding him from what really matters.
Mine Yoshitaka: Chimera
Our mysterious Mine is not understood by anyone. He's truly an engima, with his form changing varying on the situation he's in and who's nearby. Sometimes Mine doesn't know who he is and loses himself in between these transformations. Ultimately, it's this constant desire to change himself that is the end of him.
Tatsuo Shinada: Tanuki
Playful yet mysterious, Shinada is a shapeshifting tanuki that transforms as he needs to survive. Mostly content to get by day to day, saying and doing what he must to make it to yet another day. Partial to free stuff, snacks, and lying through his teeth to avoid hard work or responsibilities.
Ichiban Kasuga: Phoenix
Wonder-boy Ichiban cannot die. Even at his lowest, he doesn't die, he simply transforms and shines even brighter. Although constantly pushing harder and forward in life does tire him out, he always comes back stronger than ever. Somtimes even he's amazed at what he's capable of when he puts his mind to it.
Yu Nanba: Ratatoskr
Known in Norse mythology as the messenger between the eagles Yggdrasil and the serpent Niohoggr, Nanba's time as a homeless man has caused him to observe all walks of life and made him a silent but observant person. Known more his brains than his brawn, Nanba finds ways to be of importance without necessarily shedding blood, either his own or someone else's.
Koichi Adachi: Minotaur
All brawn no brains, our Adachi. He's got a good heart in there somewhere deep down but the years have made him a little jaded. Fears his only purpose is to hand out ass whoopings and nothing else meaningful. Once he gets really riled up, good luck with that fight. The man can really pummel when he feels like it. Spends most of his alone time just doing his own thing. No one really knows what else he does, honestly.
Tianyou Zhao: Qilin
Known as a symbol of good luck, Zhao floats through life either trying his best to give better fortune to others or just getting extremely lucky himself. He tries to make it appear as though it's easy or that it comes naturally to him, but he does exert quite a bit of effort underneath the surface.
Joon-Gi Han: Selkie
Depending on the situation he's in, he can either put on or remove the skin necessary to preserve his own life. Often feels like a fish out of water, pun intended. Typically alone but people find themselves drawn to him anyways, mostly for his physical beauty. Beneath his desirable outer appearance, he harbors great power.

I often hear people call Gon selfish, but I highly doubt he is. Personally, I can see this side of him only vaguely, so I have mixed feelings about this.
Do you think that's true? And if so, does he realise it or does he act this way unconsciously?
I do think he is, to a certain degree! But it's also one of the attributes that make him special and unique as a character, and I definitely don't think it makes him a terrible person or anything. It's also situational, as he can also be incredibly kind and helpful as well, even to strangers where he doesn't have much to gain in return from helping them.
Going back to one of the things I bring up frequently, HxH often plays with shounen tropes, and Gon's character is partly a twist on a typical shounen hero, but with some of those typical attributes magnified until they also become flaws. Gon is tremendously single-minded, determined, and stubborn, to the point where at times it becomes self-destructive and/or goes against reason entirely. These attributes go hand-in-hand with his selfishness.
Just a few examples of him being selfish include:
His fight against Hanzo and how he insisted on getting his way no matter what, even when what he wanted was unreasonable
Deviating from the plan when fighting Genthru when it wasn't necessary (and could have screwed up everything potentially), but he did this just for his own pride and satisfaction in the fight, and got his hand blown off in the process
What he said about knowing he can get his way with Killua if he doesn't give in
Tumblr media
I feel like the selfishness partly comes from his personality, and it partly comes from his age and maturity level as well. He's right at an age where it makes sense for him to mostly focus on himself and his own desires, and not always be able to consider and incorporate the feelings of others as easily as someone who is more mature. He has a certain naiveté to him that is charming, but his views of the world can be overly simplified and strongly conform to his own priorities, which is partly why he struggles badly when confronted with the complex reality in the situation with Pitou healing Komugi. I personally think he'll mature out of some of the selfish tendencies he has due to immaturity, but a lesser degree of it will probably continue to be an aspect of his personality, because it's part of what makes him who he is.
I think him being somewhat selfish makes sense with his background, too--he was barely around any other children through his childhood, and he spent a lot of time in nature/around animals instead, so his socialization wasn't exactly normal in that regard. He likely didn't have to share and compromise nearly as much as children raised around many of their peers. He was around adults of various sorts as they came and went from Whale Island (hence why he does have good social skills in the first place), but that's different than sustained friendship with and exposure to peers. He also does have Ging's genes, haha--while obviously Gon isn't exactly the same as Ging in multiple ways, think of the kind of life Ging leads.
I think his selfishness is mostly harmless and just a character quirk...under "normal" conditions. The problem is that as the series goes on, he ends up in progressively more and more abnormal situations (i.e. Chimera Ant Arc) that he's not emotionally prepared for or equipped to handle as a young teenager, so he deals with them how he deals with everything--by viewing the world through his own personal, self-centered lens (not meant as a judgment), and prioritizing his own goals and interests even if it means disregarding those around him. And in a morally complex, painful, terrible situation like that, that kind of outlook leads to tragic outcomes.
I think he has some awareness of it, after all it's something Killua and others in his life comment on at times. That said, because it comes from a combination of his personality and maturity level, it's not always under his conscious control. It's just part of his default state of existence.
So, yes, I do think he has aspects of selfishness to his personality, but he can often be a kind/helpful/considerate and even at times selfless boy as well (in too many ways to easily list), and I do think he'll grow out of some of the selfishness at least--but keep just enough for it to still be an aspect of his personality to a certain degree. I think what happened in Chimera Ant Arc is something he's going to learn from deeply, and his selfishness was a part of what stoked that whole situation, though there were certainly plenty of other factors involved so it's not fair to simplify it down to only that.

And here's the last batch of fic recs I have to wrap up @hprecfest and 2023! Feel free to give these some love, or else add them to your TBR for later to kick off your 2024!
Day 27: A Muggle AU Fic
Of Bookshelves and Baby Carriers by poppunkpadfoot (Wolfstar, T, 11.8k)
The customer standing in front of him is quite possibly the most beautiful man Remus has ever seen. Like, he looks like a model or something. He has long, black hair, flattened by water, and just the slightest amount of scruff on his face, and… And a baby strapped to his chest. Okay.
This fic is cute AF! 😍 Doing a reread of this again made me squee about how Remus is such a precious cinnamon roll who needs more hugs, Harry is adorable, and Sirius' flirting is hilarious. So much flangst, this is a bookshop fic, and 1000% a pick-me-up if you need something to brighten your day. A+++ aka go read this ASAP!
Tumblr media
Day 28: An Under-Rated Fic
Chimera by Literallyliterary (Flintbell, E, 11.5k)
Years after Hogwarts, years after the war, Katie Bell finds herself traded from the Harpies to the Tornados and into the hands of team captain Marcus Flint. It’s a lot easier to ignore a childhood crush when you have to take orders from him, right? …Right??
I always love a good Quidditch fic, and this one seriously delivers, especially with all the UST built up from Hogwarts days. The way Marcus and Katie push each other's buttons but are clearly attracted to each other is amazing, and there are just so many Feelings waiting to spill out, especially after they get physical. It's spicy, it's got that fiery Gryffindor-Slytherin relationship dynamic we all love, the mutual pining is for real, and the competitive streak is so alive. For the game, for a chance, and yeah, this was what really solidified my love for this rare pair when I first discovered them. Def give this a shot if you'd like to dip into new ships!
Tumblr media
Day 29: A Post-Canon Fic
Crimson Neon by @xanthippe74 | xanthippe74 (Drarry, M, 20.6k)
Winter, 1999. Harry thought going to New York would help him get his head on straight, but all he has to show for it are sore feet and a fridge full of takeaway containers. And now he’s homesick on top of everything else. It doesn’t help that his mysterious neighbour in 2C keeps cooking dishes that remind Harry of home and all the people he lost or left behind.
I adore fics that include anything senses or food related. And gosh, this one with the angst and food as a love language is gorgeous. The small details really makes this a story I can visually see. Also, Draco cooks! 'Nuff said. And the way Harry and Draco gradually fall in love is so heartwarming. It's on their own terms, in a different country. Love, love, love. Definitely a must-read for a sleepy or rainy day.
Tumblr media
Day 31: A Fav Amongst Favs
Drowned Boy by bmouse (Marcus/Percy/Oliver, M, 4k)
Oliver wants to drown himself. Percy wants to study, but he's willing to be distracted. Marcus probably wants trouble, but it's hard to tell.
Sooo, PoA is my 2nd fav HP book, and any references to that Quidditch game where Oliver tries drowning himself in the shower or missing moments right after are gold. Marcus and Oliver banter at each other as usual, but then Percy gets tangled in their chaos, and it kind of escalates. They're all boys with hormones, and yeah. 😜 This fic is so well written where you can see the attraction between each of them, and the dynamics work. *chef's kiss* (And since I genuinely like to delve into character studies for Marcus, Percy and Oliver, this was the fic convinced me that they're an awesome triad. Hell yeah.)

Behemoth: the demon of gluttony (and somehow a cat)
The first mention of Behemoth we find in The Book of Job where it is described as a huge grass-eating animal. The animal could look like a regular hippo or like mythical chimera.
It is noteworthy that in Biblical Hebrew the word “behemoth” named animals in general or domesticated ones so the meaning is quite wide.
According to the Bible, Behemoth isn’t the evil spirit; he became a demon in Middle Ages with the creation of demonology. Behemoth turned into a demon of gluttony probably because of his enormous size. Different demonologists wrote that Behemoth is able to take shape of big animals (including wolf, dog or cat). Actually, the ability to change the appearance is associated with Satan and his satellites.
Behemoth incites people not only to excessive use of food and drinks but also to lust: the demon can even turn into women to seduce men.
In addition, he encourages blasphemy and swearing. Besides temptation of the people, Behemoth arranges feasts in hell, work as Satan’s cup-bearer and as night-watchman of underworld.
Some demonologists assumed that Behemoth was a throne of God (angel who hymn the Lord) and kept the talent for singing after falling from Heaven. He also has a horn sound of which terrify sinners.
During the Apocalypse Behemoth should fight with Leviathan - another enormous demon who lives under water. Allegedly, demons will kill each other and their meat will become a dish on the feast for the men of God. According to another version, Behemoth and Leviathan are married.
Perhaps the most notable appearance of Behemoth we find in the novel Master and Margarita by Bulgakov, in which demon takes a shape of big cat with human habits. Moreover, in the end of the novel he turns into human boy, a cup-bearer as a reference for demonologists’ classification.

I require oc lore
Any oc
Any fandom or original world
Pretty please? :3 👉👈?
Oc lore you say???? My friend you have no clue what monster you have awoken! I’ll start with my tsams/fnaf ocs and then I’ll do my other ocs from a few original stories I have in my head (too many original stories help)
Rocket is ,as I’ve explained before, a run away from his own dimension, he gets damaged by others touching him due to his Eclipse using the star to try and isolate him from others, so Rocket is very touch starved. Rocket has the mental age of a child and really just wants to be a normal kid. Also Rocket isn’t completely defenceless/weak, even though he wants to hide it, his tail not only is the only part of his body that won’t crumble under any touch but the tip of the tail is very sharp and dangerous, not as dangerous as his Eclipse’s tail which has venom but still very dangerous. If you want to hug Rocket, swaddle him, it fools what ever his Eclipse did to him into thinking it’s just an object.
Nova! My adorable mute Nova! They used to be a she/her but changed into a they/them or he/him (depends on the day), they still love to embrace their feminine side only because they have no concept of gendered clothes, it’s only clothes to them! They have 3 older brothers and a cousin who all adore them (even though in the beginning their brothers and cousin were annoyed by them), they often hang out with the youngest of their brothers, Plazoo, even though he tries to teach them how to win in poker. Nova has been through a lot of trauma but refuses to let that keep a hold of them! It took ages for them to get over trauma, sometimes I hope to refuse to let my own trauma get the best of me like Nova has.
Now these are my original world ocs, I’ll put art with them so you know what they look like
Tumblr media
Stevan! I made him back in high school but he only really started to develop when I became an adult, he was my hyper fixation for a good few years so be ready for lore galore! Stevan is an alien from a planet called Unver, he is pescatarian (meaning only animals he eats are egg and fish) but it’s not by choice, something is very wrong in his tummy but he can not afford to find out what is wrong because he has no money! He is homeless and has been since he was four when he was abandoned by an orphanage in the forest, even though his friends offer to let him live with them he just feels bad taking advantage of their kindness. He of course has a whole host of mental problems including DID (tried my best to research it). He is also a chimera, which means he absorbed his twin but don’t worry his dead twin lives in his head! His alters also out of some bizarre mutation to do with his family and all that has powers! Stevan cannot reliably control any of their powers unless the alter is next to him in the mind scape! That all I’ll do for Stevan, we need to give the others some attention hehe.
———
Tumblr media
BB! My beloved BB! A very mentally unstable gooey boy! He also lives on Unver just very very far away from Stevan, he has I guess assisted living? Meaning he gets to survive and live on his own but he has people who come in to help him with certain activities like remembering to take his meds. He may or may not have bipolar and often hallucinations.
That’s all I’ll do for now! If you want to know more just ask and I’ll go digging through my pictures for them

I come from the farcille zine blog and i saw your mod intro! I'm new to the fandom and just wanted to ask if you had any particular falin/marcille character study fic recs <3
Hi! welcome to the fandom (and thank you for stopping by :> )
I'll link a few fics here; most of the fics I've enjoyed have been post-canon/related to the manga, so if you haven't finished that/are anime-only, I'd avoid those until you're caught up. That being said, I wanted to include some that anyone can enjoy. Anything manga/post-canon is under the cut :>
Gen rating; 767 words
Third person omniscient
Missing scene from after the encounter with Chimera Falin
This one is short, and perhaps not exactly what you meant by character study, but I liked the insight given into each character's thoughts. This focuses mostly on Laios and Marcille. I'll leave it at that so that I don't spoil it, since it is so short.
T rating; 1145 words
Third person limited; Marcille's pov
Published pre-ending, so Falin's name is spelled "Farlyn" like a lot of fan translations, and this doesn't conform to the canon ending of the manga (so it may actually be ok if you haven't finished the manga? At your discretion). Focuses on Marcille's relationship with longing, the lengths she would go to for her loved ones, and her fears when it comes to looking towards the future.
Gen rating; 7144 words
Third person limited; Marcille's POV
This centers a lot on changes that Marcille notices from Falin post-canon. It is also so, incredibly fluffy like cotton candy, it'll make your teeth hurt. If you like getting-together fics and you need something sweet, this is a lovely one to get into.
Gen rating; 5393 words
Third person limited; Falin's POV
This centers on Falin's desire/instinct to help others and to put them before herself. You get to see her interactions with the whole main party, but most of the fic does center around her interactions with Marcille (in an established relationship). As someone who tends to also put peoples' needs before her own, the ending of this was very sweet to me.
I also have some NSFW (E rating) fics that I can recommend, but I feel funny about posting those recs unprompted (I don't want to accidentally recommend if people are under 18). If you feel comfortable with it, anon, feel free to message me for those recs :)
